My early training in any business or project endeavor taught me to make a plan and project an outcome. You need to know where you’re headed so you know how to plan. Makes sense. But sometimes that’s also a trap. Well, let’s say that that statement doesn’t apply to everything you do.
I have started plenty of things only to change course while working through them. Maybe I add to the plan, or maybe I realize this course of action isn’t going where I want to go. Maybe I simply changed my mind. As I take each step of a plan, more is often revealed that I couldn’t see from the start.
The way I understood the directive ‘to create a plan and project an outcome’ left no room for learning on the way. I thought I needed to know what the outcome was before I even started. It kept me from starting. As it did with this project. I bought this domain in 2012 and am just now writing and publishing it in 2026.
Let me state here that I have an idea, but I am going to also learn on the way. I am going to share wisdom I learned through experiences, and I am going to share the things that I learn in this process of writing. I don’t know the outcome.
Phew, that’s uncomfortable to state. And it also allows some breathing room. Gives me some room to breathe, to learn and to adjust. When one area changes, other areas in my life also changes. I am going to bring that sense of not knowing the outcome and allowing myself to learn into other areas of my life. Maybe the difficult situations will begin to have space for breath and grace.
